The biggest consumer electronics show of the year raised the right questions about the future of computing efficiency. But it left the most important question unanswered: WHEN?
CES 2024 was filled with impressive technology. Faster processors. Thinner screens. More powerful AI. But for all the innovation on display, one question kept coming back: when will technology finally reduce Technology Airtime to zero?
Technology Airtime is defined as the time when you are waiting on the technology, or the technology is waiting on you. Every year, the technology gets faster. Every year, the devices get smarter. And every year, the amount of time we waste using technology stays roughly the same.
The reason is simple: hardware is getting faster, but the way we use technology is not getting more efficient. We are still using keyboards and mice. We are still clicking through menus. We are still waiting for software to load.
CES 2024 showed us what technology can do. The question is: when will it do it?
